While that oath belongs to another brotherhood, it would hardly feel out of place among the Emperor’s golden guardians. Every Custodian is a warrior crafted to stand watch over the Master of Mankind, and this Adeptus Custodes commission painting project aims to capture that noble, disciplined presence through a clean, classic interpretation of the faction.

Painted in a mix of our quality Levels 2 & 3, this force follows the iconic Adeptus Custodes palette, but with a slight artistic twist. Instead of traditional metallic gold, the armor was painted using warm yellow tones to create a simple non-metallic metal (NMM)-style effect. While not an advanced display-level NMM approach, the layered yellows and carefully placed highlights give the armor a softer, more stylized appearance while preserving the unmistakable golden identity of the Emperor’s finest.

Deep red capes, loincloths and plume details provide the familiar contrast against the armor, while gems and decorative elements were picked out in matching crimson tones to reinforce the regal appearance seen throughout the army. Grey mechanical components on the Vertus Praetors and weapon details help break up the gold without distracting from it, keeping the overall palette balanced and cohesive.

The collection includes Allarus Custodians armed with guardian axes and storm bolters, a Shield-Captain, Vertus Praetors with interceptor lances, Custodian Guard equipped with both guardian spears and sword-and-shield loadouts, a Vexilus Praetor (banner bearer), and a Custodian Sergeant. Together they form a compact but unmistakably elite force, where every model naturally draws attention as an individual hero.

The miniatures stand on 3D printed grey stone resin bases, sculpted to resemble ruined urban flooring. Broken pavement, cracked masonry and scattered debris create a fitting battlefield beneath the Custodes, while the cool grey tones complement the warm yellow armor and rich red cloth without competing for attention. The bases add just enough environmental storytelling to ground the miniatures while maintaining the clean presentation expected of the Emperor’s personal guard.

This Adeptus Custodes commission painting project demonstrates how a straightforward, lore-faithful color scheme can remain highly effective through careful color placement and crisp execution. Sometimes the Emperor’s chosen need no elaborate embellishments, only unwavering discipline, immaculate armor, and the certainty that the Emperor protects.
