Blood Rage Monsters
This Blood Rage commission painting project brings together some of the game’s most iconic monsters, each painted at our Level 4 quality while keeping a unified artistic direction across the collection. Rather than leaning into muted Nordic tones, the client requested a bright, high-contrast palette with vibrant colors and eye-catching details. Every monster also received a custom scenic base designed to suit its character, making each miniature feel like its own centerpiece while still belonging to the same collection. After all, Ragnarok is much more memorable when every monster has its own stage.
Each creature was given a distinct identity through both color and basing:
Hildisvini features natural brown boar fur contrasted by crisp bone tusks and horns, while the ornate armor was painted using silver and gold non-metallic metal techniques. Its vivid blue eyes immediately draw attention, and the forest base with flowing water and scattered autumn leaves adds a peaceful contrast to the beast itself.
Ymir, the Frost Giant, follows a much colder approach. His nearly monochrome white skin, black hair highlighted with white, and snowy base complete with an icy tree and hanging icicles create the feeling of a giant emerging from the frozen wilderness.
Nearby, Nidhoggr provides almost the exact opposite mood, with vibrant teal scales, bright yellow dorsal fins, glowing red eyes and mouth, all perched atop a grim pile of skulls.
The Mountain Giant combines pale skin with warm browns, ginger hair, weathered furs and wooden details, while the belly shield was painted in non-metallic silver with gold trim. The frozen river beneath his feet reinforces the harsh northern setting.
The Mountain Giantess follows a more restrained palette, pairing purple skin with orange hair and grey stone elements, including the massive rune-covered rock she carries, whose glowing red runes provide a subtle magical focal point.
The Mystic Troll mixes aged, shadow-rich skin with bright orange clothing, vivid yellow and green magical weapons, and gold ornaments that immediately stand out.
Fenrir became one of the highlights of the collection, standing atop an icy rocky base with snow while his blue winter fur transitions into blazing orange paws using smooth blends that create an ice-and-fire effect. His brilliant gold chain provides another strong visual contrast.
Finally, the Seer Troll embraces rich greens inspired by classic fantasy trolls, with deep shadows bringing out every wrinkle and muscle. Warm leather, a pale wooden club, gold ornaments and a lush forest base complete the miniature, and yes, he might remind some players of a certain swamp-dwelling ogre.
Altogether, this Blood Rage commission painting project demonstrates how varied color palettes, carefully planned scenic bases and high-end display painting can give every monster its own personality while still creating a cohesive collection worthy of earning a place in Valhalla
