This Nurgle Chaos Daemons commission was completed for Rob Baer at Spikeybits and showcases a full, tabletop-ready force built for Grand Father’s blessings. The army features 15 Plague Drones, 20 Plaguebearers, 6 Nurgling swarms, and 5 Putrid Blightkings. The core force is executed to our Level 3 painting standard, while the Putrid Blightkings received our Level 4 treatment to highlight their heavy armor and individual decay details.
The color scheme shifts away from the traditional sickly green skin, opting instead for a pale, pinkish flesh tone that emphasizes open sores and raw inflammation. Green tones are applied selectively across chitin carapaces, wing membranes, and armored plates to anchor the classic Nurgle palette. To heighten the visceral look of the army, pustules across every model were picked out in a yellowish-white base and surrounded with a thin red wash glaze to simulate painful swelling. Viscera, exposed intestines, and open wounds were detailed using Citadel’s Blood for the Blood God technical paint, giving the lesions a glossy, wet finish. Key areas of exposed flesh use Nurgle’s Rot to add a slimy, decaying contrast to the surrounding pale skin.
Unit champions and banners received extra attention to bring out distinct character across the ranks. Banners feature clean, hand-painted freehand symbols and ancient runes, while power weapons on unit leaders use glowing energy effects that contrast sharply against rusted metal hilts. On the bases, small details like individually painted eyeballs popping from the ground give the army an extra layer of narrative depth.
The entire army stands on custom toxic swamp bases styled after a industrial chemical dump. Each base combines murky green slime pools with subtle bubbling effects, corroded drainage pipes, grey stone outcroppings, and patches of dead yellow grass tufts.
