The Red Terror

“Even the bravest Catachan learns quickly that sometimes the jungle hunts back.”

This gallery features The Red Terror, painted to our Level 3 quality while staying close to the classic Tyranid appearance. The miniature follows the familiar official color scheme, but with a deeper, richer shade of red that gives the creature a more predatory look while preserving its unmistakable identity.

The body is painted in layered crimson tones, contrasted by large bone-colored talons, claws, and scything limbs. This contrast immediately draws attention to the model’s most dangerous features and helps break up the large red surfaces without straying from the established Tyranid aesthetic. Small purple accents inside the mouth and around the softer organic areas add another subtle layer of color and make the head feel more alive.

One detail that deserves a closer look is the drool effect stretching between the creature’s jaws. Created using clear adhesive, it gives the impression that The Red Terror has only just emerged from the undergrowth, ready to strike its next victim.

Rather than placing the miniature on a traditional battlefield, our client requested a dense jungle-themed base. Large tropical plants (which were 3D printed and painted by us), patches of grass, scattered rocks, and ruined Imperial masonry create the feeling of an overgrown death world. It’s easy to imagine this Tyranid predator stalking through the vegetation while unsuspecting Catachan Jungle Fighters search the trees for an enemy that’s already beneath them.

The result is a miniature that stays faithful to the original design while using color contrast, environmental storytelling, and a few carefully chosen details to give The Red Terror even more presence on the tabletop.
